Do you think that Halle’s cultural life is lacking? Do you and your friends always end up at the same bar? Here you can find tips for cultural spaces in Halle, where the beer is still less than three Euro.

Did your Monday end up being way too stressful again? Are you into fresh rap and hip-hop? Then “MoMa” at the “Oberstübchen” ist the place for you. MoMa stands for “Montagsmaler”, in English “Monday painters”. Here, everyone is allowed to step up to the mic, and this has been going on every Monday for the past six years, uninterrupted. Places have changed but the Monday stood strong and has been steadily sweetened by hip-hop. If you want to listen in, then the ambiance at the Oberstübchen with its wood-paneled walls and numerous potted plants is cozy and inviting.
On Mondays, beverage prices are very humane and you can purchase both beer and soft drinks for less than €3. You can smoke in the outdoor area, but it’s prohibited inside. It’s best to follow the MoMa on Instagram so you can listen to the artists again. There, videos of performances and albums are presented, as well as future events and concerts.
Monday is usually followed by Tuesday and it’s time to wake up the dragon. The cultural association “Südliche Innenstadt e. V.”, also known as the “Lila Drache”, “Violet Dragon” in English, is your next destination. This quaint little place offers space for conversation, table football, and also sometimes theme nights, occasionally alternating in topic, every Tuesday. On other days of the week, the Lila Drache offers pub quizzes, karaoke, lecture series, or concerts.

Furthermore, it is our winner in terms of affordability, as a Sternburg or non-alcoholic beer only costs you €1.50, making it the cheapest joint in this calendar. To not miss any events, you can find the dragon on both Telegram and Instagram. Important to note is the separate smoking lounge, meaning the association is also suited for non-smokers.
You’re too busy on Tuesday and would rather go out on Wednesdays? Then your place to be is the Kulturverein Blendwerk e. V. Every second Wednesday as well as on the weekends, an ever-changing and exciting event awaits you. Here, people are welcome to experiment, make music, celebrate, and also work. This non-profit organization in the east of Halle offers workshops, concerts, open decks, parties, and so much more. For a first impression we recommend browsing their Instagram, and for notifications on updates and future events, Telegram. Smoke-free spaces are available and many events are completely smoke-free. Now, for the drinks’ costs: Sternburg and non-alcoholic beers are each priced at €2; however soft drinks, like lemonade, cost you €2.50.

The week is flying by and the urge to go out with your friends is rising with every passing hour? Then buckle up because as the weekend creeps closer, the cultural event density increases. One of those standing events is the “Thursday-Session”, short: “DoSe” (for “DonnerstagsSession”). At this jam session, an opener eases you into the evening before everyone can join in, up until the plug is pulled due to a nocturnal disturbance complaint. Just kidding!
The event is registered to last up until midnight, so bring your instrument or a throat candy for your voice and brave the stage at the Volksbühne at Kaulenberg. Here you can play your music, laugh, and dance to every kind of music every second Thursday. Their Instagram account is called “Doseandersaale”; and features beautiful illustrations and informative posts on the regular. Sadly, the cost of drinks at €4 and upwards is rather high and not at all within the price range this article aimed for. Still, the DoSe gets a mention because with its atmosphere and program, it deserves to be recommended.
The second recommendation for Thursday evenings is the cultural association “Falle”; established five years ago, it is situated in the city center. At Martinstraße 13, the space is defined by game and club nights, educating talks and lecture series. The Falle, like the other mentioned clubs, has made it their mission to improve and strengthen the urban and cultural life in Halle. Despite its prime location and the probably high rent, the offered drinks rest at an affordable rate, securing the Falle a place on this list.

Half a liter of beer only leaves a hole of €2.50 in your pocket. To not miss any announcements you can follow the Falle on both Instagram and Telegram.
We managed to fill the days before the weekend with cool and cultural offers and places, but in order to round out the week, there are still three days missing. The problem is, on Fridays and the weekends there are so many different things to do in Halle. Giving you a complete overview makes for an impossible task to achieve, so what follows are a few recommendations and inspirations to make it just a bit easier to look for events online.
The “Peissnitzhaus” offers great events with up to three stages, especially in the warmer months, and often in cooperation with other cultural clubs. For the traditional club vibes, the “Charles Bronson” and the “Endlos” are recommended. They are large event locations with high-quality sound equipment, sprawling outdoor areas, and versatile music styles on offer. You’re more into the mainstream and would rather dance to remixes of the current charts? Then you are right at home at two historical places which have been shaping Halle’s club scene for at least the past three decades. The “Tanzbar Palette” and the “Turm” are cultural institutions and are both situated in the heart of Halle. There are many more cultural hotspots, like the “Kombinat”, “Hühnermanhattan”, “Bauernclub”, “Galle”, “Karola Konvoi”, “Objekt 5”, “Reil 78”, to name just a few.
Has your curiosity been piqued? Then browse the Internet or even roam the quite vibrant streets in real life Halle. After all, it is still very easy — and fun — to lose yourself in the cultural landscape this city has on offer.
